A small pale moray with dark marks around the eye, in rock crevices at moderate depth.
To about 75 cm, and it has the most distinctive head of any moray here. Large head, short snout, forehead sloping obliquely, and a wide dark brown ring encircling the eye, which is the mask. The jaw pores are ringed with white so both jaws appear dotted. The body is medium to yellowish brown with a yellower head.
The dark eye ring and white-ringed jaw pores together are diagnostic against every other eastern Pacific moray, so nothing else is needed.
One to about a hundred metres on rock with plenty of crevices, eating fish and crustaceans. Nothing further has been published about it. Harmless.
