The Cocos counterpart of the red-lipped batfish, endemic and rarely photographed.
The Cocos counterpart to the red-lipped batfish, and endemic to that island. Same genus, same posture, same walking gait on modified fins, with paler pink lips and a slightly different head profile.
Found on sand and rubble below the reef, generally deeper than 15 m. Less frequently photographed than its Galapagos relative for the straightforward reason that far fewer divers visit Cocos and most of them are looking upward at sharks rather than down at sand.
Records are thin. A logged sighting with depth and substrate has more value here than for almost anything else on either island.
