A large black brittle star wound through crevices and sponge, with only the arm tips showing by day.
Disc to about 3.7 cm with arms to 43, giving a span around 35 cm. A round disc with a scalloped margin, stout slightly flattened arms carrying three or four alternating spines, a light brown granular disc and dark brown arms that are paler below.
No reliable single character separating it from the other eastern Pacific ophiocomids was found in the sources, so a field identification should be recorded at genus level.
Intertidal to thirty metres, under rocks on rocky shores and in sand or mud. It sweeps algae, diatoms and detritus off the bottom.
