Purple with pale blue rings, and a mantle skirt that ripples as it moves.
A dorid to about 6 cm, the mantle deep violet to pink-purple scattered with pale blue rings that are darker at their centres, and edged with a band of white and then a fine purple line. The gill plume and rhinophores are purple with white tips. The mantle skirt is broad and undulates continuously in the water, which is the first thing seen at distance. Older references place it in Chromodoris; the genus was split in 2012 and this species went to Goniobranchus.
Feeds on sponges and holds their chemistry in glands around the mantle rim, in the manner of the whole family. It is less common on silty muck sites than the blue chromodorids and turns up more often on the rubble and rock at the ends of a slope. Recorded from about 5 to 30 m. The rings are what makes the photograph, and they read properly only with light coming across the mantle rather than straight down it.
