Plain orange with one white line along the back and no head bar.
To about 11 cm, plain orange with a single narrow white stripe running from between the eyes along the top of the back to the tail, and no bar behind the head. The pink anemonefish has both the dorsal stripe and a head bar and is paler; that head bar is the whole of the difference in the water.
It uses Merten’s carpet anemone Stichodactyla mertensii and the leathery anemone Heteractis crispa, and frequently shares a host with Clark’s anemonefish, which is larger and dominant. Groups are small. It is less aggressive towards divers than most anemonefish, which makes it easier to work with at close range. Recorded from about 3 to 30 m.
