Yellow with blue markings, feeding on bryozoans on southern rocky reef.
Three to four and a half centimetres extended. An elongate slug whose ground colour is highly variable — most often primrose or lemon yellow, but also green, blue and even black — and consistently marked with bright blue spots on the back and flanks. The rhinophores and gills contrast sharply with whatever the body colour happens to be. No depth range has been published for it.
A closely related animal from New Zealand and the western Pacific was split off in 2017, and older records of this species from those places belong to it. That makes this a narrower Australian endemic than older books say, and locality is now the practical way to separate them; telling them apart on structure is a specialist job.
It eats a branching bryozoan, a distinctive blue-purple arborescent species, and finding the bryozoan is how you find the slug. It occurs in southern and southeastern Australia — South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania — and is a temperate animal, not a tropical one.
