Two to two and a half centimetres. A transparent body with violet and blue bands and spots, and long white antennae.

The spotted cleaner shrimp is the other small shrimp on the same anemones and it carries brown-and-white saddles across the back rather than violet banding.

It lives on the corkscrew anemone mainly, and also on the giant Caribbean anemone, acclimating by pressing repeatedly against the tentacles until it is no longer stung. One or two on an anemone is normal; up to twenty-six have been recorded.

One to eighteen metres. It advertises by lashing its antennae, cleans inside gill covers and mouths, and shares stations with neon gobies. What the fish actually key on is the anemone rather than the shrimp, and a larger anemone draws more visitors.
